History of paper production in Iran

In 1344 AH, preparations were made to establish the first paper factory to produce printing and writing paper using sugarcane pulp in Haft Tepe, Khuzestan, with a capacity of 100 tons per day. In this way, the ground was laid for the establishment of Pars Paper Company in 1346 AH so that this company officially started paper production in 1349 with an initial capacity of 35 thousand tons of paper. A factory that produced 12,300 tons of printing and writing paper in the same year. In continuation of this path, in 1352, Kalang, the largest paper factory in Iran called Iran Wood and Paper Industry Complex (Chuka) with the participation of the Ministry of Industries (60% shares) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (40% shares) in the sixth kilometer of Rizvan Shahr Road. He was knocked down for his efforts and started his work in 1357.

Current situation of paper industry in Iran

Despite the good potential that we have in our country, Iran is not in a good position in the paper industry sector. Meanwhile, by importing raw wood, we can produce cellulose products such as sanitary paper, newsprint, printing and writing paper, and packaging paper, but we can also mention the annual recycling of about 3 million tons of paper in the south of the country. If we can use this potential, we will meet not only the domestic needs but also all the needs of some neighboring countries such as Iraq, Armenia, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan.

But instead, unfortunately, we burn about 3 million tons of sugarcane stalks every year, while we do not have the technology to produce paper, and there is no clear prospect of achieving it.
